The Iron is Hot: Phoenix 12/5 First Friday Self Organization Against Police Occupation

Where law exists justice is absent. The answer is self organization of events and neighborhoods without police. Oppose the police and their tacit supporters in the business, arts and cultural communities. Lead by example in order to drown out the “moderate liberals” who wish to funnel anger into politics. It’s time.

Fucking essential for anarchists and radicals right now: Against friendship – Part I

This comes form Aragorn at Anarchy Planet at probably the most crucial time possible.  What is happening?  Why is it happening?  Is it purposeful on some level or did we do this ourselves. How the hell do we fix it?  Politics IS NOT your group of friends.  Time to take ourselves serious and get shit done. Re-posted in full below.

Herein we will begin to argue against the revolutionary importance of friendship. Will not argue that friendship isn’t a fine and wonderful thing for daily life, for the eating of brunch, or the consumption of beverages. This is all well and good, do what one will, live your life.

What we will argue against is the way in which the affinity group model that has been abandoned generally (although not universally) in anarchist circles has instead migrated into an unconscious way of life. This migration has caused the conflation of social circles (aka groups of friends) with sharing political values (aka the party) with the result that anarchists (and the ASC who predate on our energy) have become countercultural against their better instincts.

To put this into different terms, the conflation of friendship with politics, if it is caused by conscious agency, is done so either by those who prefer to “just hang out” but also want to believe that they and their friends are conscious social agents OR by those who have a specific political project and want to keep it relevant by having it also be a place where social needs can be met.

If the conflation is not conscious, as in, it merely reflects the spectating nature that radicals have over their own lives, then it goes a long way towards explaining the increasing isolation of radical groupuscles. Our lifeways cannot be attractive outside our capacity to grow our social cliques beyond themselves. It is not that we are not desirable, it is that we are choosing the wrong way to communicate that desirability. Being sexy rebels isn’t nearly enough to affect the kind of attraction we would need to confound even the MSM view of us as dangerous outsiders.

Of course this is not some backhanded way to form or reform some type of anarchist political party. I am asking a question I don’t have the answer to.

Indeed I am suspicious about the way in which this friend-comrade indistinction has occurred. Sure, I can point to a reaction against the new left or organizationalism or the desirability of true affinity or the writing of Tiqqun, but the lack of experimentation after Occupy is suspicious. This is the time to change up, not fall back to pattern. Relying on the cool kids to decide what comes next has obviously had limited returns (unless you’re a cool kid and your goals are limited to, by definition, individual social rewards). Perhaps it is time to stop being coy and declare a goal or two.

Just go buy an AC unit if you don’t have one. It makes life much more enjoyable. Thank me later.

Collaboration with tyranny anywhere demands rebellion and solidarity

As life has been moving at light speed over the past few years it would be a lie to claim that the current revelation is any different.  During times of upheaval and tension it takes  a long time to shake out the truth.  In ten or maybe twenty years some of us might be able to talk about this latest twist with some certainty.  How do you face down the prospect that the entirety of the state apparatus of your city worked against you?  Worked to destroy you, methodically under the orders of both their immediate superiors and others.  I suppose the obvious answer is you learn what you can, move on and keep fighting.

Documents, thousands of pages detailing official police, politician and DHS correspondence in regards to the opposition movement locally have been released.  Much of it is not so surprising, at least to myself.  Most importantly you have the state, which lays out the plan and reasoning for destroying initiatives that threaten the status quo.  There are the expected collaborators, working against political organizations that threaten their goals.  There are those unexpected twists, the seemingly oblivious nature to how organizing works, confusion, lies and obfuscation even between departments.   At one point the Police claim that kids under 10 using finger paint on a sign were “teenagers with washable spray paint.” If that wasn’t enough, it was revealed that they have been sending undercover police officers into bars radicals frequent.

Of greater importance there are those spots, in the correspondence where the truth seeps through.  The piece that gets stuck in the throat of your average American who would rather hit the ignore button.  The liberal who has outrage only so far as their comfort.  The liberty minded patriot, willing to fight against government intrusion only when the opposing team is intruding.  The place in the American political landscape that is a caricature of itself.  The helpful realization that the people who struggle for change are always the outsiders, the radicals, the risk takers and the hated.  When society is swimming against you, keep moving in that direction.

” I am glad we are taking these folks seriously, when we do that, we win and they go home saddened ”

Says Mr. Renwick, Homeland Defense Unit.  And why wouldn’t he feel this way?  Everyone who upholds the law believes the same as anyone who fights against it feels outrage.  The vast majority of people who make up the systems of control all over the world are similar in kind.  They come from similar backgrounds, they believe similar ideas and have similar goals.  These individuals make up a massive, overarching violent institution managed by the entire ruling class.  Does that bother you to hear?  If your inclination is to run away while cupping your ears and screaming, this is for you specifically.

” Which side are you on? “

There are two sides, those who fight the system is in its entirety and those who are willing accomplices.  You can choose to be silent in the face of tyranny, that is of greater respectability than those who would sell you out.  Such as the liberal activists on a quest for
“unity” intended to protect their privilege in the face of tyranny.  Always at the expense of those who struggle against it.  Unity now can only be defined as that principle in which we never compromise with those that want to destroy us.  The people who disagree are the people who condone violence, harassment, intrusion and disruption from the most violent institution in the world.  Non-violence means never working with the state, its politicians or institutions in any capacity.

Assumption, Reaction, Solidarity

The state, capital and institutions of control are taking us seriously because the future of their project demands our obedience.  And it is more pressing, the global uprising radicalized thousands in the United States.  Many people, when the time comes will be willing to stand up and confront this sick machine openly, without begging politicians or marching in circles.  The state knows this, they know that it is different now.  That time is coming very soon, war and austerity are coming.  We all know it.

Our reaction to the state revealing its intention does not have to be a loss.  We need to use this as a jumping point in any way we can.  Support your friends, challenge your community, participate and propagandize and be ready for what is coming.  Just last night, I sat down with many people and surprisingly heard collectively that this attack if anything demands solidarity.  It demands that we show our strength in the face of empire, without fear.  And that is no joke, the people I know are not afraid, they are energized.

The Cult of Personality Politic and the Nature of Recall Elections for Sheriffs

It’s too bad we have to keep coming back to the same place, the same obsession. Instead of every four years, the ability to recall elected officials thrusts status quo politics into the limelight with a greater, depressing frequency. I notice people wondering why the proponents of a recall election for sheriff reject their critics outright. Well, defending the status quo and pushing it necessitates blind obedience. This sort of adherence leads to simplistic arguments, appeals to emotion with a required lack of logic. It isn’t enough to state that the time spent trying to recall a popular sheriff in his 80’s is a waste of time, attempt to point out that a replacement would only be different in name is meant with a lack of understanding. It’s this inability to understand that unmasks the poverty in anti-sheriff Joe political organizing. The question has to be asked, what is it that those who push these failed initiatives want? Is
it a selfless nature to dismantle an oppressive, violent system? No, it is a desire to be savior, the one human who against all odds defeated Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

The replication of the cult of personality. The obsession with one man, Sheriff Joe, turned around and personified as the individual who will be victorious against him. How else could you explain the absolute dissonance of a recall election at this point in time? Unfortunately, acceptable methods of change in liberal democracy promotes this cult of personality, isn’t it interesting that the same people who criticize petty politics and character attacks are in fact strengthening that which they are against? Do you ever wonder why the initiatives that promote and strengthen politicians and the status quo are continually pushed? Is it not obvious that the self propped leaders of the opposition are just politicians with the same savior, leader complex common among the entire political class? If we are throwing blame around, you can put it directly on the people who are protecting themselves and their own selfish ambitions. The next Napoleon who intends to defeat the King of Sheriffs, Joe Arpaio. It’s worth noting that many people unfortunately get caught up in this mess. They push it because it’s the only thing happening, they push and defend it because nobody is actually challenging. There is no winning, only obsession. There is nothing other than an aggressive appeal to the status quo in hopes that “rational” thought will prevail.

As always, this rationality leads to the strengthening and preservation of the system of domination. In this case, for example, nobody is talking about shutting down tent city. The opposition, at least used to agree that the tents are an absolute abomination. An example
of the worst kind of racist brutality. And how sad is it, that those who are willing to compromise on brutality force their followers to do the same? Vote for Penzone, remember? The saviour who would defeat Arpaio and keep the tents open. What a joke, how could one not consider those who would compromise on brutality an enemy?

It would be like Martin Luther King, giving up the fight against segregation to recall George Wallace. In fact, after Wallace stated in his inaugural address that he intended to keep segregation forever, King a few months later said

I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of “interposition” and “nullification” — one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.”

Strangely enough, he didn’t have a dream to replace Wallace with another racist governor that wouldn’t be ‘as’ vicious. In fact, MLK didn’t have any interest in replacing one politician with another politician. In this case, his interest was in the struggle against the system of racial oppression in the south. A system that was solidly entrenched, just like the systems of racial and social oppression in modern day Phoenix AZ. I mean imagine for a moment, MLK encouraging his organization and friends to enter into southern politics in order to vote for someone a little less racist. What a joke.

I will repeat myself as I have before; we need to reject the political class, ambitious politicians and those willing to compromise with brutality. We must disband the cult of political personality.
